New Year’s Eve is one of the biggest celebrations in the world.  There’s no better place to welcome the New Year than at your own home bar.  Many homeowners dream of the perfect home bar to complement their entertainment room or “man cave”.

Home bars designs are as diverse as the homes they inhabit.  From simple wall units to full bar and bar-back combos, the possibilities are limitless.  Design styles vary widely, too.  A bar can follow the style of the home or be a unique “statement” piece in the home.  They can be elegant and sophisticated or a showcase for your favorite sports or beer memorabilia.  The sky’s the limit when it comes to style.

All bars share a few common elements that make them work. First and foremost, a good home bar needs a workspace for preparing drinks.  Bottle and glassware storage is another must.  Seating is great, but not required.  If the bar has room around it, bar seating makes it a great gathering place.  If you have a little more space, a mini-fridge reduces the number of trips to restock the beer cooler.

The biggest question confronting homeowners is whether to create a wet bar or a dry bar.  Adding plumbing adds dramatically to the practicality and convenience of the home bar.  It also adds another level of complexity.  Wet bars need to be placed near existing water lines – or designed as part of a complete room remodeling project.  Bar plumbing can be great, but definitely requires more planning.
